How updates are checked →What this measures
Larceny-theft rate · state for the selected U.S. state. FBI Table 4 published offenses / source population × 100,000, rounded to one decimal.
Calculation
FBI Table 4 published offenses / source population × 100,000, rounded to one decimal.
Population denominator
FBI Table 4 state population, same vintage as the numerator.
Limitations & comparability
FBI Table 4 state estimates of offenses known to law enforcement; source-published rates use the same table’s state population and one-decimal rounding. Uses the UCR hierarchy rule and revised rape definition. Not all crime, offender counts or immigrant crime rates. Prior-year revisions are retained. Florida has limited reporting in recent releases; estimates may be particularly sensitive to reporting coverage. 2021 state crime estimates have not been imported. The selected 2019 and 2022–2024 comparisons have only four paired years, with no interpolation.
FBI population denominators and ACS resident totals are separate. Do not replace state observations with national values. Select highest revision for each state, year and metric; earlier source versions remain archived.
